What is the best career decision you’ve made?
To get a Ph.D. with a research emphasis, which led to a career in institutional research and planning in higher education.
If you had to do it over again, what would you do differently?
Perhaps I would have taken more advanced statistics courses because it would have helped early in my career. However, those courses were not necessary as I advanced into management positions.
How have women helped further your career?
I received encouragement early on when teaching part-time from the program director. At each place I worked, I had a network of women co-workers and we supported each other. I was hired at one institution by a woman administrator who supported me in my career and is a very good friend. Participating in professional organizations, including the Women Administrators in NC Higher Education, provided a network of support across the state. I collaborated with a female colleague of mine on research projects.
