Join other members of the NC Women United coalition at the 2013 Women’s Advocacy Day.
The NC Women United Women’s Advocacy Day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9 at the Legislative Building in Raleigh.
This will be a tremendous opportunity to hear from experts in the field, engage with advocates and legislative allies, and learn about what the General Assembly is doing around women’s issues.
The keynote speaker will be Kim Gandy, president and CEO of the National Network to End Domestic Violence, past-president of the National Organization for Women, and one of the country’s leading feminists. Kim has been actively engaged in the passage and funding of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in 1994, and its reauthorization in 2000 and 2005. Her notable career has included advocacy, legislative reform and coalition building on a range of issues, including gender-based violence, poverty, economic issues, and social security. Kim also served as Vice President and general counsel for the Feminist Majority and Feminist Majority Foundation, as well as 22 years in top leadership with the National Organization for Women (NOW), including serving as President. Kim has also made hundreds of news and media appearances, including for CNN, ABC, Newsweek, NPR, Oprah, and The Colbert Report.
The event will be held at the NC Legislative Building, 16 W. Jones St., Raleigh.
