The Women’s Forum, and 2011-2012 president Pat Orrange, have been instrumental in pulling together a nonpartisan coalition that will work to get out the women’s vote in 2012.
The new coalition, NC Women Matter, had a kickoff meeting on Saturday, March 10 in Greensboro, and followup on May 10 that laid out their plans in more detail. As of August 2012, they have completed a letter writing campaign to encourage drop-off women voters to get to the polls in the fall, and they are starting plans for additional letters, phone banking, and letter to the editor and op-ed campaigns.
To connect with the coalition see their website www.ncwomenmatter.org.
The March event was mentioned in the News & Observer’s Under the Dome on March 12.
Judge Manning ruled that every child in the state has a constitutional right to a “sound basic education” that quality of education – not equal opportunity or funding — should determine whether that right has been violated.
