Cynthia O’Neal Memorial Service

Forum president Pat Orrange announced the death to the members with this message: “It is with the deepest regret that I inform you that Cynthia O’Neal, a member of our Board, passed away on Wednesday. Cynthia was a valued, insightful, energetic Board member and will be greatly missed.”

A memorial service will be on Friday, February 3 at 11 am at First Baptist Church of Raleigh, 101 S. Wilmington St.

Forum members learn about new Women’s Leadership Academy

Guest speakers at the Dec. 5 luncheon for members in the Triangle were Teresa Pierrie, the new principal of the soon to open Wake Women’s Leadership Academy and Julia Taylor, the incoming Dean of the Academy.

Update on Getting out the Female Vote

The Forum is continuing efforts that focus on getting out the female vote in 2012.

In NC, 60.5% of women registered voters went to the polls in 2004 compared to 72.6% in 2008.

Updates from the Fall Conference

The October meeting of the Women’s Forum, announced a new initiative to increase women’s voting in 2012, welcomed 17 new members and heard an update on women on power boards and commissions.

Congratulations to two members

The Women’s Forum congratulates two of its members for their success in this fall’s election:

  • Nancy McFarlane, elected mayor of Raleigh
  • Gale Adcock, reelected to a seat on the Cary Town Council.

They serve as role models for increasing the proportion of women in public service.

Women’s Forum Fall Conference

On October 28 and 29, Women’s Forum members and guests will gather to hear from Lucy T. Allen, member of the North Carolina Utilities Commission, on her experience as a member of one of NC’s “super boards” and other issues related to the Forum’s continued work to increase the number of women on boards and commissions. There’s also much more on the program.

Member Achievements

The Forum’s remarkable members are its greatest asset. Here are some notes about recent member achievements and awards.

Tibbie Roberts was announced as an Honoree of the 2011 Women of Achievement Award by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of North Carolina.

Jo Ann Norris was honored by North Carolina Delta Kappa Gamma, their 2011 Founders Award recipient.

Gale Adcock was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
