Women on public boards

Graphic for 2009 ReportThe Boards and Commissions Task Force report,   Board Room or Boy’s Room? – Gender Composition of North Carolina’s Power Boards, was released on November 6, 2009 and is available for download from our website.

Rob Christensen’s article about the report, “Women still set little policy in North Carolina” appeared in the News & Observer on November 7 and energized a Women’s Forum business meeting held that day. Big thanks go to the Boards and Commissions Task Force so ably co-chaired by Florry Glasser and Melissa Reed.

“The Women’s Forum was disappointed to find so little progress in appointing women to these policymaking boards since our last survey in 1999,“ said Robin Hudson, President of the Forum. “Representation by women increased by only 5 percent, to reach 27 percentage overall.”
